Re: weddings versus florists

Oh boy does this sound familiar! I designed for retail florists for almost 17 years before I got married myself and now freelance. At all 3 shops I worked at—I was in the wedding department! At the last place-their policy was to never turn down a wedding—I hated this! I love doing the bouquets but like you—I can’t stand the whiney, pushy, mouthy bride-zillas! I still do silk weddings, but I choose WHO and WHEN to do business with. I have a very good friend who owns her shop and she is constantly telling me how lucky I am to be out of it full-time! She says people—especially Brides—are WITCHES these days! At least now, I can say “I’m sorry—I can’t possibly help you that weekend”! After I got married I wanted to be home with my husband on weekends so I took an electronic assembly job. The pay isn’t as good but I have freedom now and my stress level has lessened. I do a couple craft shows a year and 2-3 weddings by refferal from friends and family. I like this alot better! Now you know why there are shops who refuse to do weddings and those who CAN handle the stress—-do ONLY wedding/party work!
